Angel Flight is the only nationwide organization of volunteer pilots, who donate their time to transport patients in need of specialized treatment unavailable locally. As one of 1,200 pilots in the South Central Division, president and CEO Jacob Garza has flown many medical missions. Following the widespread destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana, Garza also volunteered for a mission carrying much needed supplies to aid hurricane victims.AFSC territory covers Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, eastern New Mexico, western Mississippi and Tennessee. Since its founding in 1991, AFSC has flown more than 12,500 Angel Flights. As one of six regional organizations comprising Angel Flight America (AFA), AFSC links to other regions for flights up to 1,000 miles.
- Maintains stand-by lists of pilots for organ transplant recipients
- Provides emergency transportation in the event of a national disaster or terrorist attack
- Reunites families of wounded soldiers returning from active duty
- Supplies free flights to special needs camps
- Flies other missions of compassion, on a case-by-case basis
